AkEcological Resource Consultants, Inc.
35715 US Hwy.40, Suite D204— Evergreen, CO—80439 — (303)679-4820
Technical Memorandum
Date: November 19, 2019
To: Jay Janney-Moore, NewFields
From: Troy Thompson/Ryan Hummel, ERC
Re: CC&V Water Balance User's Manual
Introduction
Ecological Resource Consultants, Inc. (ERC) created a water balance model for Newmont Goldcorp's
Cripple Creek&Victor(CC&V) mine located in Teller County, CO. The model was developed as part of the
VLF2 Phase 3 project work. ERC developed the water balance model using GoldSim version 12.1 software.
The model was developed with the intent that mine personnel would be able to input data and make
model runs to predict future conditions. This software facilitates stochastic analysis and allows the user
to evaluate a range of potential outcomes when evaluating the adequacy of the system and running
scenarios that assist with operating decisions.
This document is intended to accompany the GoldSim model created by ERC and delivered to CC&V.
Documentation accompanies the GoldSim file named "09-24-19 CCV WB Model". It provides a brief
summary of model components, presents information on model structure, and then discusses model
inputs and results. The intent is that this document supplements instruction within the model itself.
This memo also summarizes how the water balance model was utilized to size the VLF2 Phase 3 pond and
the results of the pond sizing.
Water Balance Components
The primary components of the water balance model are the two valley leach facilities (VLF). The Arequa
Gulch VLF (VLF1) includes four different heap phases, each draining to a separate pregnant solution
storage area (PSSA), denoted PSSA 1, PSSA 2, PSSA 4, and PSSA 5. Note that Arequa Gulch Phases 2 and 3
drain to the same pond therefore they are combined as Phase 2 from a water balance standpoint. The
Squaw Valley VLF (VLF2) consists of a Phase 1/2 and a Phase 3 VLF. The Squaw Valley site was therefore
modeled as two heap leach facilities while the Arequa Gulch site was modeled with the four PSSA systems
linked together. It is assumed that no ore is being added to VLF1 in this model, with only secondary
leaching of previously placed ore occurring at VLF1.
