Overview
The Mining and Reclamation Plan requires approximately 1,525,000 cubic yards of cut material
and 3,870,000 cubic yards of fill material to be moved in order to achieve the final reclaim surface.
The plan requires approximately 2,345,000 cubic yards of fill material will need to be imported.
The following assumptions were used to calculate this reclamation estimate:
• Material swell is 20%.
The Lower borrow area is at or below the 7190 bench.
• Cut material in the lower borrow area will be hauled and dumped above the 7190 level.
• Material will be extracted by ripping where possible or by drilling and blasting.
o A seismic survey conducted in 1998 suggests that the top 30 feet of granite is
highly weathered. This survey was included in the Exponent report as Appendix
40. The Applicant estimates that 363,000 yd3 can be extracted by ripping with a
D9-size bulldozer.
o All material below the 7190 bench will be extracted by ripped.
• Approximately 246,299 yd3 will be extracted by drilling and blasting, this includes material
in the lower borrow area that is 30 feet beneath the existing surface.
• 610,000 yd3 of material will be pushed from the top of the quarry towards the backfill area
of the quarry with D9-size bulldozers.
o Dozered material will be pushed 500 feet downhill on a 40% slope. This downhill
gradient is expected to significantly increase the dozing efficiency.
• 915,000 yd3 of material will be removed from the lower borrow area by a CAT-345 class
loader and loaded into 40 ton trucks to be dumped where excess fill is needed above the
in the backfill area.
• The remaining 2,345,000 yd3 of fill will be delivered to the 7190 bench where it will be
loaded into 40 ton trucks to be placed in the backfill area.
• Drilling and blasting costs are $0.60 per ton.
The reclamation cost estimate for the Mining and Reclamation Plan is included in the attached
tables.
Pikeview Quarry Amendment 4
2019
L-2
