The inspection
was completed by Clayton Wein of the Division. The Fruita No. 1 and 2 Mine is a revoked site. The weather was
clear with a teemperature of 51 degrees F. The ground conditions were dry.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE -Rule 4.05
Drainage Control 4.05.1,4.05.2,4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5,4.05.6; Discharge Structures 4.05.7, 4.05.10;
Diversions 4.05.4; Effluent Limits 4.05.2; Ground Water Monitoring 4.05.13; Surface Water Monitoring 4.05.13;
Drainage—Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8; Impoundments 4.05.6, 4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18:
There is one pond at the mine site that is approved to remain as a permanent feature (Photo 1). The pond
was dry at the time of the inspection. The embankments of the pond were stable with established vegetation.
There were no indications of erosional features. The spillway has vegetation in it,however, the vegetation was not
reducing the capability of the spillway's functionality.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS -Rule 4.15, Rule 3:
The haul road has been reclaimed for several years. Vegetation on the road was established and helping
stabilize the area(photo 2). There were no new erosional features identified. There is a large gully cutting
through a portion of the lower haul road. This gully has not increased in size from previous inspections. The
gully did not appear to be effecting the stability of the site. The upper portion of the haul road has more dense
vegetation. There were no concerns with stability or erosion. The main reclaimed bench is located at the top of
the haul road. The outslopes of the bench were stable with no erosional features observed(Photo 3). There was
minimal vegetative growth on the outslopes. The outslopes of the bench have been this way for many years. The
lack of vegetation does not appear to be impacting the stability of the area. There is a riprap channel in the middle
of the bench outslopes. The channel was in good condition and clear of blockages. The reclaimed bench had
established vegetation on it. There were no indications of instability or new erosional features. There is a large
rill or gully on the bench. The gully has not increased in width and did not appear to have down-cut. This gully
has been previously identified in other Division inspections.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 0
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 2
Page 2 of 5
