FIGURES
Figure 4.18-6: Typical Deadend Structure Pole Configuration.
Install two perch
deterrents on front arm
Open crossarm to
allow perching
Install arrester caps and
deterrent between
Cover stingers cutout/arrester
lns#all bushing
covers
tq
Many deadend poles require insulated jumpers to allow safe perching. Where this is not practical
and 60 inches of separation is lacking, perch management is an option. However, perch
management is most successful when other parts of the structure are still safely accessible to
birds. Shown above are various different types of raptor protection device alternatives and their
approximate locations.
Perch guard devices can be placed on the crossarms to eliminate the possibility of raptors
utilizing the structure or only allowing raptors to utilize safe portions of the structure.
Insulated Jumpers or covers can be used to protect raptors from electrocution by the phase
stingers.
Bushing covers and arrester caps also eliminate the possibility of electrocution on exposed pole-
mounted equipment.
Figures 43 Revision Date: 11/18/19
Revision No.: MR-211
