3. Describe the estimated topsoil depth and how topsoil will be salvaged, stockpiled and
redistributed for the re-establishment of vegetation. Specify approximate topsoil
redistribution depth:
The pre-disturbed areas to be affected contain no topsoil. All sites will be monitored for signs of erosion and weeds
during operation, and treated as needed.
Upland areas used for roadways, trenching or drilling will be stripped of whatever topsoil can be feasibly salvaged.
Topsoil depths are variable, and range from nearly no topsoil depth to several feet in thickness. Soil will be pushed
away from planned disturbance, protected during prospecting, and respread during reclamation.
4. Describe how drill holes will be plugged (refer to Rule 5.4 of the Rules for required
abandonment procedures):
All drillholes are expected to be dry since this project is located on a topographic divide. Groundwater will be limited
to local fractures;there are no known aquifers.
Dry holes will be backfilled with cuttings, then plugged mechanically or with cement, at or a few feet below the collar.
Any holes that intercept groundwater will be sealed with bentonite abandonment gel throughout the wet sections,
then backfilled with cuttings in the dry sections, and plugged at the collar. Any cuttings remaining on the surface will
be scattered.
5. Describe how portals, adits, shafts, ponds, excavations, or other disturbances will be
reclaimed (refer to Rule 3 and Rule 5 for specific reclamation performance standards).
You may wish to contact the Division for closure specifications.
Openings(adit or shaft)will be closed and safeguarded at the conclusion of prospecting activity. This may involve
backfilling them with the muck material that was removed earlier, and recontouring, or by installing a locked steel
closure in anchored steel sets (If the landowner wishes for the lockable steel doors are to remain as permanent
features, a letter will be provided in the application.) Drill pads will be recontoured, trenches will be backfilled and
contoured, and all areas will have the salvaged topsoil respread. All areas disturbed or affected by activity will be
graded to a stable gradient(3:1 max) All debris and contaminants will be removed. Topsoded surfaces(drill pads,
cut and fill slopes associated with new roads, and backfilled openings)will be seeded.
Form 2—Public File Page 9 of 14
