25 September 2019 G1981-010/Trapper Mine RAR
Vegetation was dominated by desirable species included in the prescribed seed mix; Agropyron s. (wheat
grasses)and Elymus s. (wild rye), Aster chilensis (pacific aster)and Astragalus cicer (cicer milkvetch.
Shrubs comprising Chrysothamnus nauseus(rabbitbrush), Artemisia alnifolia(silver sage), and Purshia
tridentata(bitter brush)were well represented and healthy in these parcels. An erosional feature was
noted on the parcel boundary between FAB07 and FAB 08,most likely associated with the varying years
of reclamation and/or snow bank accumulation above. A small area of vegetation exhibiting a less
desirable species mix was noted in the upper portion of FAB06. It was however, not presenting any
problems and the remainder of the parcel exhibited good cover and desireable species. The southern
portion of the F Pit parcels fall on Trapper Mining Inc. ownership while the lower third portions to the
north, fall on Colorado State owned surface. A previously released drainage corridor runs along the west
edge this block of parcels.
Lastly, the group visited the former Z pit parcels (ZA06, ZA07, and ZA08). These parcels comprise A
rangeland seed mix and were seeded between 2006 and 2008 and represent TMI surface ownership. The
parcels had good grass and forb cover as shown in the photos below. Some weeds were noted along a
contour ditch and a steep south facing slope however, desirable species made up the majority of the cover
material. Transitions between native and reclamation were stable.
REVEGETATION-Rule 4.15
General Requirements 4.151; Use of Species 415.2, Grazing 415.5
Vegetation on parcels requested for release were dominantly diverse, healthy, and well established.
Elymus cinereus (Great basin wild rye), Agropyron smithii (western wheatgrass),Arteinisia alnifolia
(silver sage), Achillea millefolium(western yarrow), Balsamorhiza sagittata(arrow leaf balsam root),
Machaeranthera conescens(hoary aster),Medicago sativa(alfalfa), Linum lewisii(lewis flax),
Sanguyisorba minor(small burnet)and numerous other desirable species were observed.
A couple of small weedy areas comprised of Bromus tectorum (cheat grass) and/or Lactuca serriola
(prickly lettuce)were noted as mentioned previously, some of which had been treated. Healthy and
diverse vegetation was found in all parcels.
Reclamation and revegetation appeared to be progressing adequately. No extensive areas devoid of
vegetation or weed infestations were apparent at the time of inspection.
POST MINING LAND USE—Rule 4.16
Post mining land use of rangeland wildlife habitat is adequately achieved with the mix of shrubs, forbes
and grasses observed. Also observed throughout the bond release block was evidence of browsing
activity.
PROTECTION of FISH, WILDLIFE and ENVIRONMENTAL VALUES—Rule 4.17
Numerous young male Odocoileus hemionus (mule deer), and Antilocapra americana(pronghorn
antelope),were observed in the f pit parcels. A pair of Tympanuchus phasianellus(sharp tailed grouse),
were flushed in this area and a couple of Mantodea(preying mantis), as well as numerous raptors and
other birds were observed.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED
None
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 3
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1
