GEOTECHNICAL STABILITY EXHIBIT
There are no buildings or any structures outside the permit area which could be affected by the
excavation. Sufficient buffers will be maintained to neighboring property lines.
The final slope will be created during mining, and thus no backfill will be needed. The sand and
gravel will be mined to a 3H:1 V slope with a loader and dozer. The native alluvial material is best
classified as sand and gravel, mixed grain size. It has an internal angle of friction of 45 degrees and
no cohesion. Material properties area derived from Table 2.5 in the SME Mining Reference
Handbook', as there is no site specific sample data of the material available.
A GALENA model was developed of the mining and reclamation slopes. This model can be found
on the attached pages. Iterative analysis was used to find the lowest Factor of Safety.
The Factor of Safety of the permanent slope is 3.0. Since this is the slope being mined to,the Factor
of Safety for the steepest slope closest to any neighboring structure is also 3.0.
Ben Langenfeld, P.E.
P.E.# 0047151
.20047151
'Original source:Houk and Bray 1977
Sievers Pit (;rey Lcw icAl anJ:Ss a'ia R•s YLL(
September 2019
