North River Gravel Pit Weldon Construction
11. EXHIBIT J: Vegetation Information
The vegetation types are displayed on Figure 4 Exhibit C Vegetation Map.
11.1. Existing Vegetation Communities
The existing vegetation found on the North River Gravel Pit property consists of three major
communities, semi-desert scrub &grassland, sparsely vegetated semi-desert, and previously
disturbed areas. The semi-desert scrub &grassland is dominated by greasewood, rabbitbrush
(Ericameria nauseosa), Indian ricegrass (Oryzopsis hymenoides), and other forbs and cool season
grasses. Ground coverage in the project location for the semi-desert scrub &grassland community
is typically between 10-20 percent. The sparsely vegetated semi-desert vegetation community is
located on steep, south facing slopes. This community typically has less than 10 percent ground
cover, consisting of very few shrubs and grasses.
Dominant species include the following:
• Western wheatgrass (Pascopyrum smithii) • Bluebunch wheatgrass (Pseudoroegneria
• Needle-n-thread grass (Stipa comata) spicata)
• Salina wildrye grass (Leymus salinus) • Cheatgrass (Anisantha tectorum)
• Crested wheatgrass (Agropyrum • Saltbrush (Artiplex canescens)
cristatum) • Rabbitbrush (Ericamerica nauseosus)
• Bottlebrush squirreltail (Elymus • Spiny horsebrush (Tetradymia canescens)
elymoides) • Prickly pear cactus (Opuntia polyacantha)
• Greasewood (Sarcobatus vermiculatus) • Winterfat (Krascheninnikovia lanata)
• Scarlet globemallow (Sphaeralcea
coccinea)
Non-native and noxious weeds observed at the property include cheatgrass (Anisantha tectorum),
halogeton (Halogeton glomeratus), purple mustard (Chorispora tenella), whitetop (hoary cress;
Lepidium draba), bulbous bluegrass (Poa bulboua).
11.2. Post Vegetation Land Use
After reclamation, land use will be dry, open rangelands.
25
