North River Gravel Pit Weldon Construction
8. EXHIBIT G: Water Information
Mining of alluvial deposits at the North River Gravel Pit will occur on perched deposits well over
100-feet above the White River. Because of the elevational differences between the nearby White
River and the and climate of this area, no ground water interception is anticipated, and impacts to
ground waters is not anticipated. Surface waters will be allowed to incidentally enter the pits, but
significant ponding or surface water persistence is not anticipated.
8.1. Aquifers
None/not anticipated to be affected.
8.2. Ground Water
None/not anticipated to be affected
8.3. Surface Water
The map shows two unnamed ephemeral tributaries intersecting the affecting mining area, and two
additional unnamed ephemeral tributaries crossing the parcel (but outside of the mining area).
These tributaries potentially drain into the White River which is directly south of the site; one of
these drainages bisecting the mining area was previously blocked by the access road and currently
does not reach the White River.
8.4. Water Management
Dewatering is not needed at this time and is not anticipated to be needed. Runoff from piled
material and operating surfaces will mostly be directed inward towards pits. Incidental runoff
moving away from pits and working areas will be controlled using standard stormwater Best
Management Practices (BMPs). See section 8.6 National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System
(NPDES) Permit below.
8.5. Project Water Requirements
No water needs are anticipated for crushing/screening or other mining operations. Water for dust
control on access roads may be needed and is anticipated to be approximately 10,000 gallons per
year. As the pit does not provide available water, these waters will be procured from existing
vendors or other municipal sources.
8.6. National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit
Weldon Construction will have an approved NPDES permit from the Water Quality Control Division
of the Colorado Department of Public health and Environment prior to any discharge.
19
