North River Gravel Pit Weldon Construction
5.3.1. Topsoil and Overburden Handling
Topsoil and overburden on the site ranges from 1 inch to 3 feet thick. The upper 2-12 inches of
previously undisturbed areas is likely useable soils/growth medium, and therefore would be
salvaged for use in reclamation. No overburden (or very little overburden) is expected. Topsoil will
be stored in and around the existing storage areas shown on Figure 5: Exhibit D - Mine Plan Map.
These areas may contain a total volume of approximately 25,000 CY of topsoil. Any overburden or
non-marketable subsoil would be kept separated from topsoil. Any overburden would be used as
backfill for reclamation.
5.3.2. Water Handling
As the pits are well over 100-feet above the White River, no dewatering of pits is anticipated. Given
the xeric site conditions, no perimeter dewater ditches are anticipated; any pooled waters within the
pits would be allowed to evaporate.
Existing surface drainage will be maintained throughout mining operations. All mining and
processing operations will be designed to manage storm runoff and prevent sediments flowing into
existing drainages and the White River.
5.3.3. Schedule of Operations
The North River Gravel Pit will operate from 7 am to 8 pm Monday through Saturday, as needed.
No nighttime activities are anticipated. Occasional equipment repair, or maintenance may be
conducted at night, but lighting will be kept to a minimum and directed inward; the site will not have
ambient lighting.
12
