I low•ever,as this permit <br /> involves federal lands managed by the Pike National Forest,it is the responsibility of the U.S. Forest Service to <br /> complete consultation under Section 106 of the National Flistoric Preservation Act as set forth in 36(;FR Part <br /> 800 ("Protection of Historic Properties"). These duties include the identification of any historic properties (i.e. <br /> cultural resources that are eligible to be listed in the National Register of I listoric Places)within the area of <br /> potential effects and determining whether the undertaking will have an effect upon such properties. '11ie State <br /> I listoric Preservation Officer,Native American tribes,representatives of local governments,and applicants for <br /> federal permits,licenses or other approval are entitled to consultative roles in this process. Furthermore,it is the <br /> responsibility of the federal agency to disseminate the findings and determinations made during the Section 106 <br /> process to the various consulting parties [36 CFR 800.2(a)(4)]. <br /> We thank you for the opportunity to comment.
