Mr. Krauth plans to increase the affected area and understands this
will increase the amount of the required reclamation bond.
Natural features separate the current mining area from the proposed area to the west. A bluff
and a surface water drainage run north to south along the west side of the current 15-acre mining area.
Mining will continue in this area and will expand west into approximately 15 acres west of the bluff. The
existing interior haul road that commences at Red Canyon Road will continue to provide access to the
proposed areas.
Mining will continue consistent with Exhibit D Mining Plan submitted in 2017 during the permit
amendment process. The target deposit continues to be sandstone that is mined as dimensional
landscape material. The annual production volume will increase from 70K tons to 150K tons per year.
The target deposit is effectively mined as benches, progressing from south to north, resulting in a high
wall along the north and west sides of the active mine area. Benches will be developed with 10 vertical
ft. and 8 horizontal ft.The proposed area will also daylight to the south and east.
Equipment will include a portable processing plant to crush and size rubble generated during
dimensional stone production. When on site, the sizing plant will be located on a relatively level and
vegetation free area along the toe of the west side of bluff mentioned previously. Approximately 5
acres will be occupied by stockpiles and the processing plant. The plant will operate less than 90 days
each year but mining will continue year round, consistent with the current mining operation.
Dimensional stone mining and equipment will remain consistent with AM-01.
Reclamation will also remain consistent with AM-01 also. Surface material will continue to be
carefully salvaged from all surfaces and stored for use during reclamation. Consistent with the
reclamation plan, only the staging and processing area will require revegetation since the mining area
will be exposed sandstone bedrock benches. Based on the reclamation cost summary provided by the
Division in March of 2107, Mr. Krauth anticipates the appropriate bond for the additional staging area is
$26,868.68. This is an increase of$18,378.68. Please refer to Table 1: Reclamation Cost Summary for
task list and costs.
ErViirronmentall /,\Illter-gatii\V/eSs Ilrc„
1107 Main Street, Canon City, CO 81212
e-mail: eai@bresnan.net
Phone: 719-275-8951
