PERMIT#:M-1977-245
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE: September 18,2019
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted by Eric Scott of the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division or
DRMS) for an acreage reduction request submitted by Jefferson County on August 29, 2019. DRMS was
accompanied on the inspection by Jefferson County representatives Joe Manchen and Wil Shaffer. The Pine
Junction Pit is located at the SW corner of the Pine Junction intersection of Hwy 285. The site is currently
permitted as a 31.1 acre sand and gravel operation with an industrial/commercial post mining land use. The
site identification sign was present at the site entrance.
On September 4, 2019,Jefferson County requested the release of 5 acres from the south boundary of the
permit area. This parcel, now owned by the IREA utility company, area was added to the permit through an
amendment in 1989 but was never affected by mining activity.
DRMS sent release notices to the appropriate parties and property owner (IREA) and, to date, no comments or
objections to the acreage reduction have been received. Because the property was never affected by mining
activity, no reclamation was required. The parcel remains in its original condition prior to being permitted by
the County (photos 2-6). DRMS will therefore approve the acreage reduction at this time and the permitted
area will be reduced to 26.1 acres.
The current permit boundary is delineated along the north side and a portion of the west side by chain link
fence which controls access to the site, the remainder of the permit boundary is marked with posted signs.
(photo 1).
No other issues were noted during this inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
Joe Manchen
Jefferson County Road and Bridge
13008 Parker Ave
Pine, CO 80470
Enclosure: Acreage reduction approval letter
Page 2 of 3
