Western Slope Flagstaff Quarry No.2 Irrigation Pipeline Removal Reclamation Plan
RECLAMATION
Trench Backfilling
Fill material will be returned to the pipeline trench and irrigation earthen laterals
and compacted appropriately to reduce the likelihood of trench settling or
erosion. Backfill shall be mechanically compacted by means of tamping or wheel
rolling. The pipeline trench will be monitored and maintained to minimize settling
and/or erosion control.
Surface Grading
Grade all areas disturbed by the pipeline and lateral removal operations after
completion of backfilling and compacting. Replace and repair any surface
improvements damaged or removed. Grade all areas to match the existing
ground lines.
The practice of re-contouring is considered to be a practice that restores proper
function of the disturbed area through soil stabilization and facilitates autogenic
repair of the landscape.
Seeding of Disturbed Areas:
Seeding of the disturbed areas will be performed within an acceptable timeframe.
Typically, a late summer planting of perennials is recommended as opposed to a
spring planting, as weed competition in the spring can overwhelm the seeded
crop.
The seed mix will be applied in order to establish permanent wind and water
erosion protection, and to create a self-sustaining vegetative community. Prior to
seed application, the seedbed shall be prepared via tilling the soil to a minimum
depth of 4" by utilizing a disk or harrow. In all accessible areas, seeding will be
accomplished using a rangeland drill. Seed shall be drilled to a depth of '/" to
'/2". In areas where a rangeland drill cannot access or the soil is too rocky, seed
will be hand broadcasted at twice the drill rate, and harrowed to provide an
adequate degree of soil to seed contact.
Seed and seed labels shall conform to all current State and Federal regulations
and will be subject to the testing provisions of the Association of Official Seed
Analysis. Computations for quantity of seed required are based on the percent of
purity and percent of germination. Pounds of Seed x (Purity x Germination) _
Pounds of Pure Live Seed (PLS).
Colorado State University Extension Range Management — Western Region
Office was consulted on the appropriate reclamation seed mix for the disturbed
areas. Soil samples from within the mine permit areas were analyzed by Ward
