Hay/Straw Mulch <br />Hay and/or straw mulch will be employed in areas where wind or water <br />erosion is of significant concern. Such areas may include channel <br />bottoms and hillside slopes. Any hay or straw employed must be <br />certified as native and weed and pest free in accordance with U.S. <br />Department of Agriculture regulations. Hay or straw mulch will be <br />applied at a rate of two (2) tons per acre and crimped or disked into the <br />surface of the soil. Application should be perpendicular to the <br />predominant wind direction and/or the direction of surface water flow. <br />Hydromulch and Tackifter <br />Hydromulch and tackifier will be used to anchor seed and any <br />amendments to the soil surface on revegetation areas where the slope is <br />greater than 2.5:1 (horizontal: vertical). Hydromulches to be used would <br />be inert wood and plant fiber products (cellulose), and acceptable <br />tackifiers would be comprised of plant gums or organic co -polymers. <br />Hydromulch and tackifiers should be applied with a hydromulcher at a <br />manufacturers recommended rate of 2500 pounds of hydromulch and <br />tackifier per acre. Hydromulch and tackifier should be applied after <br />seeding, and any application of other soil amendments. <br />Stubble Mulch <br />As an alternative to hay or straw mulch in the same applications, stubble <br />mulch (nurse or cover crop) may be employed. This mulch should only <br />be employed in areas accessible to mowing, should that be necessary to <br />control mulch growth or spread. Suitable mulches to be employed would <br />include sterile crosses of agricultural wheat and native wheatgrasses <br />(such as the product Regreen®), sorghum, barley, or other agricultural <br />crop grass. The local Natural Resource Conservation Service office, <br />Agricultural Extension office, or other crop management agency will be <br />contacted to determine stubble mulch strip width, direction, and seeding <br />rate for specific stubble mulch planting. <br />Irrigation <br />Irrigation is not employed at the King II Mine. <br />GCC Energy, LLC King II Mine <br />Section 2.05.4 <br />Page 13 July 11, 2017 (RN -07) <br />
