Castle Aggregate
7250 Allegheny Drive Colorado Springs CO 80919 Ph:719-598-0215 Fax:719-598-3053
August 26, 2019
Re: Permit Amendment, M-1977-211
Pikeview Quarry
Dear Mr. Cazier:
Castle Aggregate(Castle) is pleased to submit a 112 permit amendment application for the Applicant's
Pikeview Quarry operation. Castle has reassessed the reclamation plan as part of its review of the
staged approach to reclamation and developed an approach that is better suited for the site. Castle
proposes to reclaim the Pikeview Quarry by backfilling the quarry area to buttress the existing landslide.
Fill material will be generated by grading back the existing granite highwalls above the landslide,
excavating steep slopes below the quarry floor, and by importing material from offsite. The fill will
primarily be placed as compacted fill in a bottom-up manner, and fill from the upper portions of the
quarry will be dozed into place before being covered with compacted fill. Following grading of the
backfill slope, the site will be revegetated by placing topsoil, seeding, and planting trees. The post
mining land use remains wildlife habitat, and all areas of the quarry will be reclaimed.
Castle will continue to crush and screen rock onsite as suitable material is encountered, but operations
will primarily focus on reclaiming the site.
Please do not hesitate to contact me or our Stantec consultant, Paul Kos, if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
"elk'
Jerald Schnabel
President
Castle Aggregate
