Cripple Creek&Victor Gold Mining Company ■
Squaw Gulch VLF Phase 2A Part 1 ■
Record of Construction Report
475.0106.032
August 21,2019
compact the subgrade. The contractor also utilized a smooth drum compactor attachment
mounted on an excavator on slopes where the two compactors and dozer configuration could
not be used. Compaction of the subgrade was performed in accordance with the applicable
developed method specifications, presented in Appendix E, for the following equipment:
Vibratory smooth drum compactor;
Excavator smooth drum roller attachment; and
r Vibratory sheepsfoot drum compactor.
The CQA Monitor inspected and approved the finished subgrade surface prior to SLF placement.
The as-built subgrade surface is presented in Record Drawings (Pre-2019) No. 1 and 2. Some
minor modifications were made to the subgrade surface during 2019 construction and are
reflected in Record Drawings (Post 2019) No. 1 through 3.
2.6. Leak Detection Trench
Approximately 2,995 linear feet of leak detection trench was constructed within the Squaw Gulch
VLF Phase 2A limits in accordance with the project Technical Specifications. The Phase 2A leak
detection trench has only been partially constructed, as shown on Record Drawing (Pre-2019)
No.4 and Record Drawing(Post 2019) No. 5.The leak detection trenches installed prior to March
2019 have been inspected and repaired, as needed, prior to the acceptance of the subgrade. The
remainder of the leak detection trench to be constructed, as well as the leak detection sumps,
will be completed during future construction.
Detail N on IFC Drawing A68 shows the typical leak detection trench section. Per Detail N, a
minimum one foot by one-foot trench was excavated and lined with 40 mil smooth LLDPE
geomembrane. The geomembrane was installed in long strips with a 5-foot overlap and was
overlain by a 12 oz/yd2 non-woven geotextile. A 4-inch diameter perforated corrugated
polyethylene pipe (CPeP) was then placed in the trench. The trench was backfilled with Leak
Detection Fill (LDF) and the geotextile was wrapped around the fill with a minimum 1-foot
overlap. A minimum slope of 0.5 percent was maintained along the entire length of the trench.
Where necessary, portions of the leak detection trench (constructed prior to March 2019),
geotextile was replaced within it.The CQA Monitor observed all leak detection trench installation
to date.
The Squaw Gulch VLF Phase 2A leak detection trench was constructed by installing approximately
14,975 square feet of 40 mil smooth LLDPE geomembrane, 14,975 square feet of 12 oz/yd2 non-
woven geotextile, 2,995 linear feet of 4-inch CPeP and 111 cy of LDF.
P:\Projects\0106.032 VLF2 Phase 2 CQA\1-REPORTS\Cert Report-Phase 2A Part 1\DRMS Comments\475.0106.032 CCV PHASE 2A Part 1
ROC REPORT_Revl.docx
Page 6
