COLORADO
Parks and Wildlife
co 0 Department of Natural Resources RECEIVED
CPW Montrose Office
2300 South Townsend Ave AUG 2019
Montrose, CO 81401
P 970.252.6000 D&SOR OF RECLAMATION
MWOMI)SAFETY
August 9, 2019
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
Attn: Stephanie Mitchell
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RE: Klett Pit, Permit Number M2019033
Dear Ms. Mitchell,
Thank you for the opportunity to provide input on the proposed Klett Pit project in Montrose
County, located at Township 49N Range 10W Section 22. This letter is in response to your
request for comments on May 9, 2018.
One of our goals at Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is to provide complete and timely
information to all entities who request comment on matters within our statutory authority
and our mission, which is to perpetuate the wildlife resources of the state, to provide a
quality state parks system, and to provide enjoyable and sustainable outdoor recreation
opportunities that educate and inspire current and future generations to serve as active
stewards of Colorado's natural resources.
Currently, CPW policy directs our efforts towards proposals that potentially have high impacts
to wildlife and wildlife habitat, with an emphasis on large acreages, critical habitats, wildlife
diversity, and effects to species of special concern. This project site was previously used as
agricultural lands, and approximately three acres have already been impacted by mining
operations. This proposed project site is less than 10 acres, and is surrounded by private land
that is primarily agriculture fields. Due to these factors, impacts of the development may be
characterized as minimal.
CPW appreciates the opportunity to comment on this project. If you have any questions,
please contact DWM Natalie Renneker at 970.209.2371.
Sincerely,
Natalie Renneker
District Wildlife Manager
4 9
Dan Prenzlow,Director,Colorado Parks and Wildlife•Parks and Wildlife Commission:Michelle Zimmerman,Chair.Marvin McDaniel,Vice-Chair
James Vigil,Secretary•Taishya Adams.Betsy Blecha•Robert W.Bray•Charles Garcia•Marie Haskett•Carrie Besnette Hauser•Luke B.Schafer.Eden Vardy ;.
