The water level had surpassed the rivers embankment and flooded into the Gehrman Pit.
Thereafter, the water level did not dissipate causing the erosion of the Gehrman Pit back to the rivers
bank ultimately diverting the Yampa River channel through the Gehrman Pit.The Gehrman Pit is now
captured by the Yampa River and is not flowing in its natural meandering path. We are now contacting
COE to take the necessary steps in curing this diversion to the Yampa River, and eventually re-armoring
the breached embankment.
Elam originally expected the river to eventually subsided and continue on its natural course, however
that is not the case. In the interest of maintaining a working partnership with the COE, Elam has
retained the services of Greg Lewicki and Associates to act on our behalf in this matter and resolve this
issue. We want to emphasize that Elam is committed to working with the COE in a cooperative manner
and look forward to resolution of this issue.
Since Iy,
r
Jim Doody
Environmental Manager
Kilgore Companies, LLC dba Elam Construction
556 Struthers Avenue, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501
Jim.Doodv@elamconstruction.com
970-242-5370
Xc: Mr.Tyler Adams, US Army Corps of Engineers, Colorado West Regulatory Branch
