PERMIT#:M-1977-245
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE:July 11,2019
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted by Eric Scott of the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division or
DRMS). DRMS was accompanied on the inspection by Jefferson County representatives Joe Manchen, Wil
Shaffer, Lou Anderson, Carlos Atencio, and Kyle Kos. The Pine Junction Pit is located at the SW corner of the
Pine Junction intersection of Hwy 285. The site is currently permitted as a 31.1 acre sand and gravel operation
with an industrial/commercial post mining land use. The site identification sign was present at the site
entrance (Photo 1).
The site is comprised primarily of two areas: the upper bench/southern area, and the lower/northern area.
An access road circles the outer perimeter of the permit area on the western and eastern sides (Photo 3).
Although the permit has intermittent status, during the inspection, material processing was taking place in the
lower bench area (Photo 2). On-site activities appeared to be in compliance with the approved mining plan.
The permit boundary is delineated along the north side and a portion of the west side by chain link fence
which controls access to the site, however the remainder of the permit boundary was unmarked. The lack of
boundary markers for the remaining permit area is cited on the first page of this report as a problem. The
permit boundary will need to be surveyed and remarked with permanent markers/posts of some kind and
proof submitted to DRMS that this has been completed by the corrective action date (Sept 30, 2019).
Jefferson County representatives noted that a portion of the northern side of the permit may be impacted by
future CDOT plans to widen Hwy 285 in that area. DRMS informed Jefferson County that a permit revision
would likely be required when the specific details (areas, timeframe) of this project were known.
No other issues were noted during this inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
Joe Manchen
Jefferson County
21401 Golden Gate Canyon Road
Golden, CO 80403
