C-17 r1
Fines Recovery Pit
The fines recovery pit will be a smaller,rectangular-shaped area(in footprint), nominally 275 ft. in length
(west to east) by 235 ft. in width (north to south). It will be excavated to a depth nominally equivalent to
that of the main mine pit. At its design pit depth of 25-ft., the feature yields an estimated holding capacity
of approximately 43,000 yd3.
Based on laboratory-scale analyses and anticipated yield factors, the design capacity of the feature is
sufficient to accommodate the anticipated 38,000 yd3 of plant reject, which will be slurried to the pit at an
approximately 40-to 50% moisture content, by weight. The remaining 13% (or 5,000 yd3) of the feature's
overall volumetric capacity will be reserved for storm water collection/detention and freeboard capacity.
