i
TETRATECH RMC
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mike Refer,Aggregate Industries-WCR,Inc.
FROM: Christoph Goss, Tetra Tech RMC Cr(f
RE: Material Quantities at Proposed Tucson South Resource;
Tetra Tech RMC Job No. 19-3919.019.00
DATE: May 25, 2004
This technical memorandum is written in response to your request at the April 27,2004 status
meeting to provide a material quantity estimate, refine the mud lens extents, and draw interpreted
geologic cross-sections at the proposed Tucson South gravel resource site. The material quantities
described herein supercede and replace the quantity estimates in the Tetra Tech RMC memos of
March 17,2004 and April 13, 2004.
Quantity estimates are based on 2004 Tetra Tech RMC drilling results (report pending)and summary
drill logs provided by Aggregate Industries (Mike Refer,February 2004,on file at Tetra Tech RMC).
Table 1 shows the estimated in-place material quantities within the mining limits shown on Figure 1
(current as of.Mar 19,200,4)_ All n•ear'tities ar4 in cud it ya—Is No t^=n`n
determined. For finis project we define overburden as fine-grained soil above the main sand and
gravel deposit and a mud lens as clay and silt zones within the sand and gravel. These raw quantities
assume no bulking or compaction. The sand and gravel will contain additional fines(waste material)
that would be removed by washing. All volumes in this memo are before washing.
Table 1 breaks the quantities down by cell and high wall slopes. While vertical slopes will provide
the most material, such slopes may be unstable;hence quantities are shown for a 1:1 (H:V) slope as
well.
Table 1: Estimate of Material Volumes At Tucson South Site
Near Vertical High Walls High Walls at 1:1 Slope
West Cell East Cell WWI Total Site West Cell East Cell SW Cell I Total Site
Overburden 357,000 465,000 116,000 938,000 356,000 461,000 115,000 932,000
Mud Lens c 275,000 12,000 59,000 346,000 259,000 12,000 49,000 320,1000
Sand&Gravel 2,164,000 3,884,000 517,000 6,565,000 2,109,000 3,679,000 482,000 6,270,000
`In-place quantities before washing
AU volumes in-situ:no shrinkage or swell assumed
1900 S.Sunset Street,Suite I-F.Longmont CO 80501
Tel 303-7723282 Fax 303.665.6959
www.ttrmc.com
