PERMIT#: M-2018-052
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE:July 1,2019
OBSERVATIONS
This was a"pre-operation" inspection of a Mined Land Reclamation Board (MLRB)-Ordered 110-1
Reclamation Only permit site located at 510 Bearing Tree Road in Breckenridge CO. Property owners Steven
and Melinda Hunter accompanied Eric Scott of DRMS for this inspection. The notice of permit applied for
was posted near the entrance of the proposed permit boundary(Photo 1)
The MLRB ordered Mr. Hunter to obtain a "reclamation only"permit in a board order signed on January 17,
2019 and issued on January 25, 2019. Mr. Hunter submitted a 110-1 "reclamation only"permit to DRMS that
was called complete for review on June 11, 2109. The current decision date for this permit application is set
for July 10, 2019. The permit area will consist of 0.07 acres which consists of the existing shaft cover building
and the immediately surrounding area shown in the attached photos. The permit area is currently marked with
red and white reflector posts.
During this inspection it was noted that all hand-mining and processing equipment (sluice, screening tables,
etc.) that was observed during the initial inspection in October of 2018 has been removed from the site, and
that the building covering the excavation of the historic shaft has been reduced in size considerably(see
attached Photos 2-5). The previously existing shaft is likely a feature associated with the larger historic
workings downslope, or a historic prospect pit. Mr. Hunter believes the pit is located on a historic find known
as the "Bullion King" - a gold-bearing vein identified in the area in the late 1800's.
Mr. Hunter has indicated that the reclamation for the site will include bringing the existing structure into
compliance with the applicable County regulations, removal of the bagged soil material currently located on
the site (Photos 4 and 5), and reseeding of the disturbed area around the building to prevent erosion. It should
be noted at this time that vegetation in the immediately surrounding undisturbed areas of forest floor is very
thin, if present at all.
Given the limited nature and size of the required reclamation, DRMS will set the reclamation bond for this
permit at $2000. The $2000 bond will be due within 60 days of the approval date of the permit. The permit
will not be issued or valid until the bond is received and approved by DRMS. Failure to post the required
reclamation bond within 60 days will result in additional enforcement action.
No other issues were noted during this inspection, and DRMS left the site at approximately 1400.
Inspection Contact Address
Steve and Melinda Hunter
PO Box 3938
Breckenridge, CO 80424
