The GEC Mine was a surface mine which the
Division has revoked the bond and terminated the permit. Therefore,no mine operator remains. All bond monies
available to the Division were utilized by the Divisin for reclamation activitries and no reclamation bond money
remains to conduct maintenance activities. The weather was clear and ground conditions were dry. Temperatures
during the inspection were around seventy degrees fahrenheit.
On November 13,2018, a meeting was held between the Division and The Corley Company in regards to the
Division's intentions of releasing jursidiction to the GEC Mine Site. During this meeting,Dr. Corely, president of
The Corley Company, informed the Division that it was best that the Division no longer access the site on the
lands owned by The Corely Company. Based upon that meeting, this inspection was done from a limited public
access point at the gated county road. The lock code that the Division once had to this gate no longer works.
GENERAL MINE PLAN COMPLIANCE:
The inspection for the GEC Mine was done at the locked gate along the county road to the site. From there, the
Division was able to inspect the embankment of Pond A. The embankment was vegetated. While the Division
could not view the top of the embankment, it has been well documented that this sediment pond is completely full
of sediment.
A portion of Chen's Hill was visible from this location. While it has been documented that erosion and gullies
have formed on the slope of this hill, none were visible during this inspection.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 0
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 2
Page 2 of 3
