From: Aaron Calhoon
To: Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver,CO 80203
Date: 6/23/19
Re: Letter of Support for Von Doose Mine Permit Number M-2019-031
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing this letter in support of the Von Doose Mine Permit application. I have looked over Atlas
Mining and Reclamation LLC's permit application and I believe the protections they have proposed to
prevent acid mine drainage and groundwater discharges are adequate. It appears that all proper steps
are being taken to permit, explore and mine in a legal and responsible manner. I support their opening
and operating the Von Doose Mine as proposed.
1 hope that Ouray County has not abandoned its rich and long history of underground hard rock mining.
Section 24.1E of the high alpine development regulations states the purpose and intent of these
regulations is to ensure that mining remains a viable component of the Ouray County economy. In
recent years the County has taken numerous private property rights from private property owners in the
alpine zone. I fear that property owners' right to mine responsibly on private mining claims is becoming
unreasonably hindered. If it is an overwhelming feat to gain permission from stakeholders for an
underground mine, then the system is broken.
Sincerely,
Aaron Calhoon
