EXHIBIT B
Von Doose Mine 110(1)Reclamation Permit Application
Site Description
Land Use
The primary land use of the private property in and around the affected area boundary is
Industrial/Commercial along with secondary uses of Recreational and Forestry. To an extent practicable
and that does not conflict with the conditions of an approved mining permit, Red Mountain Trust, LLC
(RMT), the owner of the property, intends to continue these uses of the surface both in and outside of the
affected area boundaries.
Structures
The only structure within two hundred feet of the affected area boundary is the pre-existing, private road
that accesses property owned by RMT and Ouray County Road 20A.
Vegetation
The site occurs at elevations that range from 10,810 to 11,420 feet on the eastern slope of Red Mountain
No. 2. The area is characterized as a Subalpine Forest ecosystem (Fitzgerald, J.P. et al., 1994). With the
exception of the pre-existing road, which is barren, the entire area within the affected area boundaries is
covered by a low density of evergreen trees with the dominant species being Englemann spruce (Picea
engelmannii), Subalpine fir(Abies lasiocarpa)and Lodgepole pine(Pinus contorta).
This ecosystem is relatively homogeneous, dense coniferous forest that dominates steep slopes. It is the
highest elevation forested ecosystem in Colorado. Soils are typically very shallow and the dominant form
of precipitation is snow. The accumulation of snow is augmented by windblown snow from the ridges
above and by the trees within the ecosystem itself which act as effective snow fences.
Soils
Soils within and adjacent to the site were characterized using the USDA Natural Resources Conservation
Service(NRCS)Web Soil Survey(WSS), and from two composite samples collected by AMR.
NRCS WSS designates the lower affected area as being composed entirely of NRCS soil unit 113,
"Cryorthents-Rubble land complex, 30 to 75 percent slopes", with the following characteristics:
NRCS Soil Unit 113: Cryorthents-Rubble land complex, 30 to 75 percent slopes
Map Unit Setting
National map unit symbol:jynk
Elevation: 8,400 to 12,800 feet
Mean annual precipitation:23 to 42 inches
Mean annual air temperature:28 to 42 degrees F
Frost free period.•30 to 75 days
Farmland classification:Not prime farmland
Map Unit Composition
Cryorthents and similar soils: 50 percent
Rubble land.•30 percent
Minor components:20 percent
Setting
Landform:Mountain slopes,ridges
Landform position(two-dimensional):Summit
Page 1 of 7
