Eric C. Scott
May 24, 2019
Backfilling will occur concurrently with the mining of each cell. The remaining mining cell
excavations will be reclaimed to water storage reservoirs identified as Ponds 1-5. Reclamation of
each water storage reservoir will include construction of a compacted clay embankment (clay liner)
around the perimeter of the excavation to prevent seepage of groundwater into and stored water
out of the reservoirs.
To determine whether the lined reservoirs cause groundwater mounding, the Applicant proposes to
construct observation wells. If significant groundwater mounding is observed, the Applicant
proposes to construct a perimeter well to mitigate the mounding. A dewatering system well permit
will be required to be obtained for the proposed perimeter drain/well.
The consumptive use of groundwater at the site by evaporation, dust control, and water retained
in the mined product is estimated to total 5-10 acre-feet per year. The Applicant intends to obtain
a substitute water supply plan to cover depletions prior to mining.
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety and/or the Applicant may contact the State
Engineer's Office with any questions.
