B-19
through early 2019 (consisting of hollow-stem auger borings typically extending no deeper than 30 ft.bgs)
reported similar shallow(perched)groundwater occurrences in six borings,as shown in the following Table
B-4: Perched Groundwater Occurrences.
TABLE B-4
PERCHED GROUNDWATER OCCURRENCES
DH No. Coordinates Depth to GW Distance From PA*
GR-02 40.149445 N; -105.506429 W 8 ft. 1,500 ft.North
GR-35 40.158738 N; -104.507770 W 23 ft. 4,800 ft.North
GR-37 40.153462 N; -104.507498 W 27 ft. 2,200 ft.North
GR-38 40.153483 N; -104.499857 W 18 ft. 2,500 ft.Northeast
GR-39 40.153304 N; -104.491942 W 5 ft. 5,000 ft. Adjacent to NW Line
*PA="Permit Area"(Location/Distance Approximate)
Drill holes GR-39 and GR-40 are both located immediately proximal to the Ennis Draw feature, where the
presence of shallow groundwater would be anticipated, as confirmed by the so-determined 5 ft. depth.
The other five drill holes (GR-2, GR-35, GR-37, and GR-38) are dispersed throughout the remainder of
Section 12 (at locations somewhat distant from the Permit Area), and are demonstrative of the variability
in depth at which shallow(perched)groundwater occurrences are present.
Notably, one drill hole completed adjacent to the Permit Area(GR-43)encountered groundwater at a depth
of approximately 23 ft. bgs; yet, another drill hole (GR-42; not listed in the above table) located
approximately 400-ft. to the southeast of GR-43 (and within the footprint area of the proposed mine pit)
did not encounter groundwater to its terminal depth of approximately 55-ft. This is consistent with another
drill hole completed proximal to the Permit Area(GR-41; also not listed in the above table)which did not
encounter groundwater, with a terminal depth of 18 ft.; although, GR-41 was collared at a location
approximately 2,000 ft. to the east of the Permit Area. This data suggests that there is a high degree of
lateral discontinuity with respect to perched groundwater presence, as well.
In summary, site characterization indicates the presence of random and discontinuous occurrences of
shallow, perched groundwater zones and/or saturated conditions within the uppermost(20 to 30 ft.) depth
interval, which is mainly comprised of eolian sand and/or interspersed clayey sand lenses.
