PERMIT#: M-2003 019
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: JLE
INSPECTION DATE:May 13,2019
OBSERVATIONS
This was a monitoring inspection of the Re-open Gravel Pit#18 Pipe Springs Ranch, LLC. operated by Baca
County, Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (DRMS or Division) permit number M-2003-019. I, Jared
Ebert with DRMS conducted the inspection. Mr. Kurt Eskew, Shiloh Turner and Gerald Gerber with Baca
County accompanied me on the inspection.
This is a 20 acre 112c mining operation located in Baca County. The approved post-mine land use approved for
the site is rangeland.
Backfilling and Grading:
A berm of soil material is piled around the perimeter of the pit excavation. The operator pushes the mine
material down into the pit leaving a 3H:1V slope or less.
Hydrologic Balance:
The pit was dry at the time of the inspection.
Gen. Compliance With Mine Plan:
The Operator has excavated an area about 10 acres in size. The pit basin has graded slopes at a 3H:1V angle.
Off-site Damage:
The permit boundary was marked with boundary markers and it appears the affected land is within the
approved permit boundary. Some of the affected land on the south side of the permit area is very close to the
permit boundary, the County should take caution to not affect land outside of the approved permit boundary.
Reclamation Success:
The site is still active and reclamation does not appear to have been conducted within the affected land at this
time. However, the pit slopes are already graded to the required slope angle and topsoil material is stockpiled
and ready to be used for reclamation.
Topsoil:
Topsoil is removed in advance of mining and stockpiled adjacent to the pit basin.
