GEOTECHNICAL STABILITY EXHIBIT EXHIBIT U
There are no buildings or wy structures outside the permit area which could be affected by the
excavation. A minimum thirty foot buffer will be maintained from the permit boundary line to all
excavations. All reclaimed areas will be restored to relatively flat (5-1501c) slopes except for tate
side slope. The sidelopes will be mined to the final reclaimed slopes of 3H: IV down to a foot
below water level, then 2H: IV to the pit bottom. The surface material of these reclaimed slopes
will be topsoil.
The side slopes will range fix= sand -silt -clay with slightly plastic fines to silty gravels, poorly
graded gravel -sand -clay.
l gdW factors
In order to determine the stability of this slope, the 211:1 V lower slope will be evaluated for
safety factor. Based on Figure U-1, from Huang, shows typical iatemal angles of friction for
various materials. Assuming that the gravel is classified as GC, clayey gravels, poorly graded
gravel — sand - clay, this material has an internal angle of friction of approximately 34 degrees.
Graff t, March 2012 U-2
