INTRODUCTION
The proposed Horsefly Rock Source is located 8 miles south west of the town of Colona in
Ouray County Colorado and accessed from Government Springs Road and Hwy 550. The site, in
relation to the town of Colona, is shown on Map B-1. The mining area will be adjacent to a small
drainage where the desired shelf sandstone rock is located. The site is bordered by private
property land owners on all sides. The proposed mine is a part of a 491-acre tract of land. Parcel
lines obtained from Ouray County are shown on Map B-2. A List of the names and mailing
addresses of the landowners are listed in Exhibit R.
The topography within the permit area slopes gently down toward the north east. The disturbed
area for the Horsefly Rock Source is 9.41 acres for the mining area and for topsoil storage and
.55 acres for haul road areas. The permit boundary is shown on Map C-1 and the entire permit
area is 9.96 acres. The sandstone ledge has been historically used for grazing and wildlife
habitat. The property is currently accessed through the proposed mine site by an existing road.
The proposed mine site will use the existing road for its operations and access off of the
property.
The site will be reclaimed to a land use of rangeland for livestock grazing and wildlife habitat.
The topography of the reclaimed land is shown on Map C3
