COLORADO
/ Division of Water Resources
® Department of Natural Resources
Response to Consideration of 112 Construction Materials Reclamation Permit
Amendment Application
DATE: May 8, 2019
TO: Eric C. Scott, Environmental Protection Specialist
(Eric.Scott@state.co.us)
FROM: Javier Vargas-Johnson
RE: North Star Pit, File No. M-2012-004-AM01
Applicant/Operator: Superior Oilfield Services Co., LTD; (970) 352-4444
SW'/4 SW'/4 Section 22, Twp 12 North, Rng 63 West, 6th P.M., Weld County
CONDITIONS FOR APPROVAL
® The proposed operation does not anticipate exposing groundwater. Therefore, exposure of
groundwater must not occur during or after mining operations.
® Water is proposed to be used at the site for dust control purposes. The applicant will need
to document that the water was obtained from a legal source, or the water was diverted in
priority under a water right decreed for such mining/industrial use.
COMMENTS: The subject application is for an expansion of a surface mining operation on 27.16
permitted acres located approximately 6 miles west and one mile north of Hereford, Colorado.
The primary commodities mined at the site are sand and gravel. The site is proposed to be
reclaimed to its previous use of rangeland upon completion of mining.
It is not anticipated that the operation will impact groundwater.
The only proposed use of water at the site is for dust control purposes. Water for dust control
purposes will be obtained from an industrial well leased by the operator approximately 2 miles
north in Wyoming.
Stormwater will be contained on site by berms. Stormwater will be controlled on site and released
in a controlled manner to not damage off site areas in accordance with the operation's stormwater
management plan. If stormwater runoff intercepted by this operation is not diverted or captured in
priority, it must be released to the stream system or infiltrate into the ground within 72 hours;
otherwise the operator will need to make replacements for evaporation. There will be no
depressions left after mining operations are complete, therefore no impoundments will remain in
the reclaimed area.
The applicant may contact the State Engineer's Office with any questions.
`), C01
1313 Sherman Street, Room 821, Denver, CO 80203 P 303.866.3581 www.cotorado.gov/water
Jared Polis, Governor I Dan Gibbs, Executive Director I Kevin G.
