PERMIT#:M-1983-139
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE:May 6, 2019
OBSERVATIONS
This was a monitoring inspection conducted by Eric Scott of DRMS at the request of the City of Arvada. Cliff
Deeds of the City of Arvada contacted DRMS and requested that DRMS visit the site to evaluate the condition
of the reclamation that has been conducted to date. The site entrance is located approximately 1.5 north of
W 68th Ave on the east side of Highway 93 in Jefferson County.
The permitted land is owned by the City of Arvada. DRMS approved Amendment AM01 in 2018 to add a
secondary post-mining land use of industrial/commercial for a portion of the north central permit area that is
currently leased to Pioneer sand and gravel as a sales yard. Mining has not taken place at the site since 2014,
and reclamation is well underway. Issues identified in the previous inspection with exposed groundwater or
ponded runoff have been addressed through backfilling and re-grading. No standing water or impounded
surface runoff was observed in any of the lower lying areas of the site during this inspection.
The regrading and revegetation of the eastern portion of the permit area has been successfully completed
(photos ) although weed control efforts should be maintained across the site to make sure knapweed and
other noxious species do not become more prevalent.
The area immediately south of the Pioneer sales yard, and the area of the permit northwest of the access road
were more sparsely vegetated at this time, although reclamation grasses were observed emerging in these
areas. Additional growth media in some of the more thinly vegetated areas may be required to establish
successful reclamation vegetation in a timely fashion.
While on-site, the City expressed a desire to increase the area of the permit allowed to remain as a Pioneer
sand and gravel sales yard, and to set aside an area near the southwest corner of the permit to use as a
training area for snowplow drivers. These modifications to the final reclamation plan will require the
submittal and approval of a Technical Revision to the permit.
No other issues were noted during this inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
Cliff Deeds
City of Arvada
8101 Ralston Rd.
Arvada,CO 80002
