Stoner- rngineening & Surveying
Engineering, Testing & Surveying
[late: April 2, 2019
To: Jordan McCourt
Project Coordinator
GCC Energy, LLC
6473 County Road 120
Hesperus, CO 81326
(970) 385-4528
= `-
VIA
From: Ryan Griglak, P.E.
Project Manager
Stoner Engineering & Surveying
Re: King Coal I — Quarterly Water Quality Improvements Inspection
On March 30, 2019, Ryan Griglak, P.E. visited the GCC Energy, LLC King I Mine site to conduct
the quarterly inspection of the water quality features installed to prevent contaminated storm
water runoff from escaping the site in events smaller than the 100 -year storm event.
Both ponds contained water and had captured additional sediment recently at the time of the
inspection (see Pic. 1). The ponds both appeared to generally be in good condition though the
amount of additional sedimentation from the last inspection was noticeable (see Pic. 2). The
required storage volume appears to be adequate at this time based upon the measuring gages
(see Pic. 3). The ponds should continue to be monitored after storm events to ensure that
excess sediment does not reduce the required storage capacity available for storm water
runoff.
Due to the recent storms, warmer weather, and ongoing placement of stockpiled material,
there are culverts and drainage ditches that are in need of cleaning maintenance. Repairs were
ongoing at the time of the inspection. The sedimentation traps at the entrance to the site have
been cleaned and reconstructed (see Pic. 4).
The pipe inlet into the east pond has experienced some damage due to snow/sediment
removal operations. In addition, it appears that the ongoing maintenance of the inlet pipe has
resulted in material being placed within the pond/berm area at the inlet location. This material
should be removed as soon as possible before the material is washed into the base of the east
pond.
The ditch connecting the culvert sections of Reach 7 north of the old bath house building has
experienced sedimentation (see Pic. 5) and should be cleaned to ensure the existing culverts do
not experience excessive sedimentation and inhibit runoff flowing though the site,
P.O.
