INTEROFFICE MEMORAND UM
TO: ROBIN REILLY
FROM: JANET BINNS
SUBJECT: WILLIAMS FORK MINE, C1981-044, MR57
DATE: 4/29/2019
CC:
I have reviewed Moffat County Mining’s (MCM) application for a minor revision for the Williams Fork Mine,
C1981-044, MR57. MCM is proposing to revise the seed mix for the Pasture/Hayland Seed Mix, Table 66. The
pastureland/Hayland areas are near the Portal 5 area. Table 69 contains the reclamation success technical
standard for these areas.

The currently approved Pastureland seed mix, Table 66, contains a high percentage of introduced wheatgrasses
and introduced brome grass, as well as a legume, alfalfa. MCM’s proposed seed mix reduces the amount of
Smooth Brome in the seed mix, eliminated Crested wheatgrass and Intermediate wheatgrass, and proposes to
included Meadow Brome, Orchard grass and Tall fescue, as well as increase the alfalfa component. For a post
mining land use of pasture, this is a positive change away from less palatable Crested wheatgrass, and more
aggressive Intermediate wheatgrass. The Division approves of the proposed seed mix change.
