We
recommend a minimum of a 4:1 or 5:1 slope but if there is enough overburden for
reclamation a 10:1 slope would create an even wider apron of habitat(probably 20-30
feet). The shallow water areas may also offer more room for willow and cottonwood
development.
• We also recommend that the shoreline be irregular to create more shoreline and,
therefore, more habitat for waterfowl and other species. Occasional points or peninsulas
will also create visual blockage that should enhance the area for waterfowl and other
species-
• Lastly we support CPW's recom:7lendation to survey the area for bald eagles, which are
protected under both the Migratory Bird 'Treat)%Act and the Bald.and Golden Eagle
Protection Act.
Thank you for requesting our input on this project :tnd. for consideration of impacts to threatened.
and endangered species. if you have any questions or comments related to this issue you can
contact Terry Ireland of our staff at(970)628-7188 or terry
Sincerely,
2,115/2019
Ann'r imberman
Western Slope Supervisor
Cc: Renzo Del Piccalo and Mark Richman, CPW, Montrose
3
