Fall 2018 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
Southern Panels Mining Areas
is discontinuous over a distance of about 35 feet and has a bearing similar to other
cracks located on the pad and in the road south of the pad.
The maximum dimensions of the crack west of the access road were 4 inches in width, 8 inches in
depth, and about 35 feet of discontinuous length. Nearly all observed subsidence cracks had an
orientation N5-10°W, very similar to those observed in the road south of the gate (Location 1).
The E-Seam overburden depth at this pad location is approximately 1,100 feet.
4.4.3 Location 5
Several small subsidence cracks with an orientation of approximately S72°W were observed
crossing the entire southern portion of the E7-9 MVB pad during our spring 2018 field visit.
Evidence of these cracks and others previously noted on the pad were present but much less
discernable during our fall 2018 field visit.
4.4.4 Location 6
The eastern end of Traverse D-D is the E7-8 MVB pad, which is located mostly on a ridge with
minimal cut and fill. During our spring 2018 field visit, a relatively wide (24 inches maximum)
crack was observed north of the trailer (Figure 7). Observations of the same feature during our
fall 2018 field visit found the feature to be approximately the same in dimensions (Figure 8).
Due to the relative lack of fill placed on this portion of the pad, it does not appear to be the result
of differential settlement. This crack is about three feet deep at its maximum and about 10 feet
long in an east/west orientation. Other miscellaneous cracks are visible on the pad but appear to
have no specific consistent orientation and all are short, shallow, and do not extend beyond the
edge of the pad.
4.5 Traverse E-E'
This traverse begins at Traverse A-A • conDntQs s6uthward to an intersection with Traverse F-
F and then west and south above mined E-seam Longwall Panels E5, E6, E7, and unmined E-
seam Longwall Panel E8 (see Map 1). Overburden along this traverse varies from about 900 to
1,020 feet.
831-032.900 Wright Water Engineers, Inc. Page 19
April 2019
