Rule 2.04.7 — Hydrology Description
8. Rule 2.04.7(4) Please update and provide the division with a new map containing
all of the hydrologic monitoring stations for the Deserado Mine (Map 137). This
map should aslo include any water supply intakes, ditches, reservoirs, and wells
within one mile of the affected area. Please include the surface elevations of the
water monitoring stations on the map. The map should also include the location
and extent of sub -surface water, if encountered, within the proposed permit and
adjacent areas, including but not limited to areal and vertical distribution of
aquifers, and an estimate of seasonal variations of aquifer characteristics on cross
sections and contour maps as appropriate. Please include on the map the location
of surface water bodies such as streams, lakes, ponds, springs, constructed or
natural drains, and irrigation ditches within the proposed permit area. Also
include the locations and dimensions of existing areas of spoil, waste, and non -
coal waste disposal, dams, embankments, other impoundments, and water
treatment and air pollution control facilities within the proposed permit area.
Item #8 Response:
A revised version of Map 137 has been provided with this submittal.
Rule 2.04.8 — Climatological Information
9. Climate data is presented in the Hydrologic Section II.C.2 of the permit Table II.0-1 for
the years 1950-2005 and comprises mean monthly climate data relevant to precipitation,
(rain and snow), average temperature and average minimum and maximum temperatures.
Additional climate data is located in Section II.E of the permit. The permit states that
meteorological data collection was reinitiated in June 1980 and is available on request.
Please add the climate data referenced above and collected since 1980 as well as the
following data to the permit from 2005 through 2018. Please provide DRMS with these
revised pages.
a) Mean monthly precipitation
b) Avg direction and velocity of prevailing winds
c) Mean monthly temp and temperature ranges
Item #9 Response:
A revised Table II.0-1 has been provided with this submittal. The source of
information utilized to update this table is the Rangely, Colorado Climatological Center.
This is the same source information utilized to populate all previous versions of this table
in the past. As this location does not capture and report average wind speed and direction
it has not been included in the table as requested.
There appears to be some confusion regarding the collection of site
meteorological data at Deserado Mine. There has been no collection or tabulation of site
meteorological data, with the possible exception of the year 1980, for a period of 12
months. This information, if it was captured, was never incorporated into a readily
available format that can be produced at this time.
Rule 2.04.10 — Vegetation Information
10. Please review Section II.F for information regarding the threatened and endangered
species list for the plant species that are applicable to the Deserado Mine and update as
necessary.
