mining disturbance could be at its maximum. At the proposed Lazy Two Pit site, it is assumed
that the mining disturbance will be at its greatest close to midway through the mining operation.
During this scenario, the southern portion of the site has been mined and the pit is partially
backfilled to establish final site drainage. Only about half of the required backfilling, grading,
and revegetation of the pit has been completed at this point. To complete the backfilling,
material from un-mined areas of the site will need to be harvested, placed in the pit, graded,
topsoiled, and revegetated. Additionally, highwalls associated with the active mining face and
approximately 500 feet of side slope on both sides of the mining face will require reclamation.
Mine Operation Aspects and Disturbance Areas
Mining Operation Disturbed
Aspect Area (acres)
Active Mining Area:
1. Stormwater
that falls directly on disturbed areas will generally drain to the mine pit and allowed to infiltrate.
The active mine pit will effectively contain stormwater flows and prevent surface runoff from
disturbed areas of the site. Stormwater not encountering disturbed areas will be allowed to drain
within natural drainage patterns.
Material Processing and Associated Facilities
A portable processing facility for product crushing and screening will be brought to the site and
used as needed. The facility will be located within the pit close to where active mining is
Lary Two Pit
DBMS 112 Permit Application Page 8
