Keenesburg Mine 2018 Vegetation Monitoring Report
monitoring occurred in August. The trend towards greater cover of desirable perennial species
and less cover of annual and undesirable species is positive. However, some of the reclamation
areas still need time to achieve the reclamation goals.
7.2 Herbaceous Production
Based on the results of the herbaceous production sampling, only Reclamation Area 30 passed
the calculated production success standard (Table 24). Herbaceous production increased
substantially in all three Reclamation Areas from 2015 to 2016 especially with perennial grass
species (Figure 10). However, perennial grass production decreased from 2016 to 2018 in
Reclamation Areas 29 and 30 and increased only slightly in Reclamation Area 31. This decrease
in productions from 2016 to 2018 is likely due to considerably less precipitation in 2018 than
2016 as well as the timing of the precipitation.
Table 24: Herbaceous Production Success Standard Com arison
Herbaceous Production
Phase IH Monitoring
Area
29
Area
30
Area
31
Average Total Production
80.1
134.4
103.8
N
30
30
30
Nmin
44
79
37
Average Allowable Production
68.6
116.0
103.8
Stdev Allowable Production
40.7
91.0
48.1
Standard
151.2
90% of Standard
136.1
T (one -tail, a=0.9)
-8.19
-0.81
-2.93
Standard Passed?
No
Yes
No
Figure 10: Non -Noxious Herbaceous Production by Life Form 2016 & 2018
300
i 250
4 200
U
.D
2 150
50
0
U Perennial p Annual
Habitat Management, Inc. 27 October 2018
