lens or other adverse conditions are encountered. We understand you plan to construct the
embankment slope liner using 3:1 (horizontal to vertical) slopes.
The soils and bedrock on the project site appear suitable to the goals of the project if placed and
compacted properly. We recommend you plan for quality control testing on a regular basis to
help ensure the liner soils are placed and compacted in accordance with the design specifications.
Care should be taken to avoid lamination between lifts of liner soils or at the bedrock soil
interface. We recommend that soils to be placed in embankment are compacted with a kneading
action compactor such as a sheepsfoot compactor to reduce the risk of lamination. Additionally
we recommend that the foundation and cut-off key trench should be wetted and rolled with a
sheepsfoot to improve bonding between the bedrock and the first lift of embankment soils.
LIMITATIONS
The design in this memo is based on the soil information provided. During mining if
significantly different conditions are encountered such as mud lenses, deeper bedrock or weak
soils we should be contacted to evaluate the need for further analysis. Depending upon the
conditions encountered in the mine highwalls, site specific stability analysis, seepage analysis,
and other analyses and design layout efforts may be required to develop final reclamation slopes
around the mine perimeter.
If you have questions regarding our design assumptions or these analyses, please feel free to call.
P\0201 LG Evenst\0201 011 Ftreatone Gravel Resource MmeTroject Manuandesign ruemoTirestone MEMORANDUM docx
- 4 -
