NEW ELK COAL
COMPANY
February 15, 2019
Rob Zuber RECEIVED
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman St., Rm. 215 FEB 2 5 2019
Denver, Colorado 80203
ISION Of RF-CLAMAIM
Re: Lorencito Canyon Mine IVMINING AND
SAF
Permit C-1996-084
2018 Annual Reclamation Report
Dear Mr. Zuber:
Enclosed is the Annual Reclamation Report form for 2018 for Lorencito Canyon
Mine. Map 2.05.3-5 Soil Distribution Plan is also enclosed.
NECC staff worked closely with DRMS to get accurate data from previous ARRs and
to get accurate information for future ARRs. The major issue was addressing the 1.8
acres that have not been reclaimed according to older ARRs. It was decided that this
acreage was Borrow Area 3 (BA-3). With documentation presented to DRMS, it was
shown that BA-3 (1.4 acres) was reclaimed by April 2009. BA-3 was initially
reclaimed in 2007 but 0.4 acres were redisturbed to get additional topsoil in 2008. It
was then final reclaimed by April 2009.
NECC staff had discussions with DRMS about having the ponds and light use roads
becoming permanent facilities when the site is moved to Phase III release. NECC
staff is currently in talks with the landowner in regard to this.
Other activities in 2018 included noxious weed control using Tordon to combat
occurrences of Canadian Thistle, Hounds-Tongue, and Knapweed. The entire mine
site was sprayed for noxious weeds at least three times from the months of April to
September. No new areas were graded, topsoiled, or seeded.
Phone (719)631-6146
12250 State Hwy 12 Fax (719)868-0044
Weston, Colorado 81091 EMAIL nmason@neve%al com
