PERMIT#:M-1981-256
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE: February 22,2019
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine monitoring inspection for the Eckberg Pit, an active Yuma County 112c sand and gravel
permit, conducted by Eric Scott of DRMS. DRMS followed Yuma County Road and Bridge representative Don
Marr to the site, and observed the site with them at approximately 1130.
Yuma County has approximately 45 acres currently permitted at this location. Mining completed at the site with
only a small area remaining at the north end of the site to be reclaimed. Concurrent reclamation is well
underway. The sloping is complete in previously disturbed areas of the site, and vegetation is established
(Photos 2-3). The mining site identification sign was observed at the Eckberg site entrance (Photo 1), and t-post
permit boundary markers were in place.
The only issue noted at this site is the slopes in the north end of the pit were left steeper than 3:1 H:V and are
beginning to erode in some areas before vegetation can establish. Some re-sloping to 3:1 and slope repair will
be required at this point before reseeding. Some terracing of the larger slopes may be also required to prevent
soil erosion until vegetation can fully establish. Some amendment of the poor soils on site, such as fertilizer
and additional organic material, would likely help vegetation to establish on disturbed areas and speed the
reclamation and final release of the site.
No other issues were observed during this inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
Don Marr
Yuma County
1310 S.Blake St.
Wray,CO 80758
