PERMIT#: M-1989-052
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE:February 13,2019
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine monitoring inspection for the Dakota Clay Pit, a 9.9 acre 110c clay mine, conducted by Eric
Scott of DRMS. DRMS met permittee representative Robert Tibbets at the site entrance at 8:45 AM and
entered the site as far as the snowy conditions would allow—up to the area of the first working face (Photo 2).
Although it was noted that the site identification sign was present at the site entrance (Photo 1) some of the
permit boundary markers were either missing or unable to be located. These markers will need to be replaced
in the proper locations to delineate the 9.9 ac permit boundary and should be easily locatable/visible in the
field. As stated on the first page of the report the operator will need to provide proof to the Division that this
has been done by the corrective action date of March 29, 2019.
It was also noted that noxious weed species such as knapweed were present on site. The operator should
implement the weed control plan as needed to eliminate the presence of listed noxious species from the
permit area.
There was no mining activity taking place during the inspection, and the product stockpile/s have been
removed from the site. The annual report for the site submitted on October 23, 2018 states that the last date
of active mining at the site was in July of 2018. DRMS will remind the permittee at this time if mining does not
resume in 2019, that reclamation activities shall be completed within 5 years of the end of mining.
No other issues were noted during this inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
Rob Tibbetts
The Denver Brick Company
401 Prairie Hawk Dr.
Castle Rock,CO 80109
