The application of fertilizer is discouraged during revegetation. Overall, fertilization would only
optimize the environment for weed growth, which is not desirable. Fertilization would also greatly
reduce the rate of vegetational development in secondary succession.
Seed mixture will contain only native certified weed free grass and forb species. Purchase seed from
a reputable seed collector and dealer. In order to maintain the genetic integrity of the plant
community, species with a source or cultivars within the area or region are preferable to the ones
from other regions or states.
-- Broadcast seeding would occur within five days of spreading the topsoil in order to avoid the
mechanical roughening of the surface crust caused by precipitation. After seeding,a drag would be
pulled over the seeded area to cover the seed.
Shrub and Tree seedling material of species naturally occurring on site can be obtained from the
Colorado State Forest Service. Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii), Engleman Spruce (Picea
engelmannii),Pondersoa Pine(Pines ponderosa),Quaking Aspen(Popular tremuloides),and Limber
Pine(Pinus flexilis),Trees to be planted at 100 trees per surface acre in a random pattern, achieving
80% cover for the mature trees, assuming a 70% survival rate. No irrigation systems would be
installed. Weed control fabric, moisture collection basins,shade/wind protection screens and fertilizer
tablets would be used to reduce competition from grasses and minimize moisture fluctuations.
Preferred shrub species for re-establishment include: Fringed Sagebruch (Artemisia frigida),
Mountain mahogany (Ccercocarpus montanus), Wood's Rose (Rosa woodsii) and Bearberry
(Arctostaphylos uva-ursi)would be planted in designated zones with a combined total of 430/acre.
A certain amount of weed invasion is normal following revegetation, especially on and sites. Weeds
will largely disappear after Z to 3 years. Noxious weeds are extremely competitive and can effectively
dominate a site. Efforts should be made to recognize and treat noxious weeds as soon as they appear.
Efforts also should be made to control noxious weeds in areas adjacent to the site that will be
revegetated. During such monitoring, species included on the current State of Colorado lists of
prohibited and restricted noxious weeds pursuant to Title 35 Article 5.5 Section 115 C.R.S. will be
sought. If found, their locations will be noted, and if feasible, removed at that time. If viable seeds
are present, any removed plants will be placed in closed plastic bags and transported offsite for
disposal.
After a period of five years, total ground cover along the monitoring transects will be no less than 90
percent of the values observable in adjacent undisturbed areas. Total ground cover will be cover by
live vegetation below one meter plus litter plus standing dead plus rock. Values from adjacent areas
will be obtained from sampling implemented in the same way used on the revegetated areas.
P.K. Enterprises will relocate property pins and install signs on the NF boundary.
VI. TERMS AND CONDITIONS
-8-
