The testing requested consisted of L. A_ abrasion and percent
fractured faces_ This testing was used tar supplement previous testing conducted on these
materials in 1991 (E_L.I. Project No. JOM-91 dated August 26, 1991)_ The purpose of the f
requested testing was to provide information regarding conformance to Colorado Department of
Transportation Speci ications for aggregates for bases.
The results of the L. A. abrasion and percent fractured faces testing are presented below:
L. A.Abrasion 62%
Percent Fractured Faces
Single Face 96%
Double Face 87% i 1
Ttie results of our previous testing are attached.
i
Biased on the State Department of Highways, Division of Highways, State of Colorado,
Standard SpeciGcafr'ors for Road and Sr;dge Construct,'crr, dated 1991, Section 703.03,
Aggregate for Bases, the materials submitted generally meet the grading requirements for
Classes 1, 2, 3, and 5. In addition, the materials do not vary significantly from the grading
requirements for Glasses g and 1. The materials also meet the plasticity requirements for all j
classes of aggregates for bases. There is no requirement for percent fractured faces. U
The materials tested generally do not meet Arne L. A. Abrasion requiremertt of 50 percent a
maximum. However, the materials tested were granitic, and the abrasion results may represent
more weathered portions of the materials in the borrow pit.
