EXHIBIT I and J
SOILS AND VEGETATION
There is little change from the original information submitted in
2001 . The information provided in this section was obtained from
the Natural Resources Conservation Service web page . This mine
is in an area where the general surrounding uses are agricultural
dryland farming or rangeland. The revisions include an updated
Soils Map and information for the one soil type that is new.
This information will supplement the existing information.
The current plan calls for salvaging and storing the top most 12
inches of soil for use on the seedbed during reclamation. For the
existing permit area and south, any soil salvaged from the south
area will be respread for revegetation. We estimate that enough
growth medium/topsoil can be salvaged from the northern area so
there will enough to resoil the area north of the existing permit
with 11 to 13 inches . On the Existing permit area and south
section it is expected enough growth medium has or can be sal-
vaged to replace 4 to 6 inches in that area.
Vegetation information
The vegetation information is sparse in the NRCS printout and
again it describes the land as if it had a nearly native vegeta-
tion cover. Much of the existing permit area that has not been
mined matches that description. The new north area has been used
to grow dryland crops and has a weedy grass cover since it was
not cultivated for the last few years . The Vegetation list
provided in 2001 is still applicable for the area on the south
and a copy is included with the new information.
A copy of the 2001 NRCS seed mix recommendation is also attached.
We propose no change from this mix as shown in the Exhibit E -
Reclamation Plan.
20
