TR04 RECEIVED
JPumac JAN 2 9 2019
ACME
BRICK DIVISION OF RECLgMgT1
Acme Brick Company MY04GANpSnc, +
00 3
January 16, 2019
o t0
Mr. Patrick Lennberg L N
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman St, Rm 215
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Dawson Clay Mine. M1977-392, TR - Weed Control Plan
0
Dear Patrick Lennberg: 0 p
On November 14, 2018 the Division of Reclamation, Mining& Safety conducted an
inspection Acme requested due to the facility permanently closing in the near future. During the
inspection, State listed noxious weeds (Canada Thistle and Diffuse Knapweed) were found on
site. Acme is submitting a Technical Revision for implementing a Weed Control Plan as a result
of inspection.
On December 20, 2018 I met with William Wilkins, Elbert County Extension Agent,to
get his advice for a weed control plan.
Mr. Williams has suggested a multifaceted weed management plan.
I. Mechanical: mowing early spring, possibly digging up the plants including the roots
(livestock grazing may replace these).
2. Chemical: Aminopyralid (Milestone), Chlorsulfuron(Telar DF) and Clopyralid + 2, 4-D
(Redeem).
a. Canada Thistle: Milestone 5-7 ounces/acre 1 t./gal. water, Telar DF 1-3 ounces/acre
0.50 gr/I gal. water, 2, 4-D 3 pints/acre 1.25 oz./gal. water. Spring at the pre-bud
growth stage and/or to fall re-growth.
b. Diffuse Knapweed: Milestone 5-7 ounce/acre I t./gal. water, 2, 4-D 1 qt./acre I
oz/gal. water, Clopyralid 1.5-2 pints/acre 0.75 oz/gal. water. Spring at rosette to early
bolt stage and/or in the fall to rosettes before flowering stalk lengthens.
3. Cultural: Grazing early spring. Grazing will be contingent on the current grazing lease
holder.
4. Biological: Biological controls are available through the Palisade Insectary.
a. Canada Thistle: Suggested application for biocontrol release is Sept. —October.
b. Diffuse Knapweed: There are two suggested biocontrols. Using them both would
cover May—August. The first in May and the second in July.
