The proposed mining site is located in a
prairie habitat adjacent to the Huerfano river corridor.
There are no known Threatened and Endangered species in the area, however US
Fish and Wildlife Service should be consulted on any Federally-listed Endangered
and Threatened Species that might be present at the location including Bald and
Golden Eagles.
There is suitable habitat at or near the project location for nesting raptors and
migratory birds. CPW recommends the use of preconstruction surveys to identify
raptor nests within the project area and the implementation of appropriate
restrictions near active nests as proposed in the report. CPW recommends
adherence to the recommended buffer distances and timing stipulations identified
in the attached document "Recommended Buffer Zones and Seasonal Restrictions
for Colorado Raptors". Removal or relocation of any active raptor or migratory
bird nest will require consultation with CPW and US Fish and Wildlife Service
prior to disturbance. Both active and potential nest sites, winter night roosts should
be considered when evaluating disturbance during construction.
Bob D.Broscheid,Director,Colorado Parks and Wildlife•Parks and Wildlife Commission:Robert W.Bray•Matthew Burkett•Charles Garcia•Mane Haskett I It(
. o
Carrie Besnette Hauser•John Howard,Chair•Marvin McDaniel•Colleen Peppier•Jennifer Rieke Taylor•James Vigit,Secretary•Michelle Zimmerman,Vice-Chair . .
