Material Processing and Associated Facilities
A portable processing facility for product crushing and screening will be brought to the site and
used as needed. The facility will be located within the pit close to where active mining is
occurring or near the site entrance. A fueling/lubricating station, generators, and outdoor storage
may also be located near the portable processing facility. Pit run material will be hauled or
conveyed to the processing plant where raw material and product stockpiles will be located.
Alternatively, the material may be hauled off-site as pit run for direct use or processing
elsewhere.
In addition to the portable processing facility, a portable asphalt plant may also be used on the
site as needed. The asphalt plant would be located in the mine pit or close to the site entrance
near the portable processing facility to minimize material handling and hauling distances.
A mine office/scale house trailer will be established near the site entrance. The office/scale
house area may be used for employee parking, equipment fueling/lubricating, or equipment
storage.
Commodities to be Mined and Intended Use
Sand and gravel for use as construction materials will be the primary products produced from the
proposed Lazy Two Pit site. Test pits have verified that commercial deposits of sand and gravel
exist up to about 10 feet below the surface of the ground. In addition to the commercial sand and
gravel materials, clay, silt, and other non-marketable topsoil and overburden materials will be
used on-site for reclamation.
Use of Explosives
Since the material is unconsolidated deposits, no explosives or blasting is required.
Lazy Two Pit
DRMS 112 Permit Application Page 9
